"Finding Beauty Under Many Layers"....

This seems like a great lead in to the blog today. Had the pleasure of having Jennifer and Jason come out this afternoon, it turns out that Jennifer is also a children's author and knowing that we have Grandchildren she gave us several of her books!  Thank you Jennifer! I'll read them first....
Notice anything different?  I received the clock back from Mike Eck yesterday, he does very nice work!

The cleaned and painted radiator, have discussed upgrading the fans  to the CoolCat fans from Mike Frank, Jennifer has had repeated episodes of fans failing so we will get those ordered.
Cleaned off the brittle weather stripping from the hood (top) and installed the new seal

New seal glued in place, need to do the other side now.

I can see why Jennifer had a cover on the wheel, lots of splinters that needed fixing.  I've removed the finish and getting ready to apply a new finish, just a bit more sanding.

Well, that's it for today.  Hope ya'll had a good Memorial Day Weekend.

Cheers,
Lynn

  1. Looking great, Lynn. Jennifer is a children's book author? Interesting. I'll have to ask our people at BookSpring if they are familiar with her books. Nice work on the steering wheel and getting the Coolcats.

    1. Morning Drew, Fascinating person, artist, art teacher, author, etc. Really enjoyed her visit along with Jason, her son in law. She's had a lot of trouble with her 50 yo fans, she's had one replaced but like you, I think the Coolcat fans will be a significant upgrade to her car and with the radiator out this is the time to do it. If the steering wheel comes out half as nice as the one you did I'll be pleased, going to use Helmsman Spar Varnish in a can with 7-8 light coats. I have a large can of ZAR polyurethane that I used on the front door but it's satin and I want a gloss finish. What do you think?
      Cheers,
      Lynn

  2. The Helmsman Spar Varnish with about 8 coats is what I have done. It depends if you have any deeper nicks to fill so sometimes it has taken me more coats. Of course, a dollop of the varnish using a paint brush helps with those too. I did sanding with very fine sandpaper and then used Turtle Wax polishing compound by hand to finish it off.

Yes, the new fans should be a huge improvement. I kept the old fans and fan blades from my S2 since they are somewhat sought after by originality people. As you know, Jaguar used them for wiper motors too and many other British makes as well.

    1. Thanks Drew, like I said, if I can get it 1/2 as nice as your's I'll be happy.
Just sprayed the first coat, very light, will wait about 15 min and respray till I get about 6 coats on it. Thanks for the tip on waxing! How fine is fine? 400, 600, 1000?
      Cheers,
      Lynn

    2. I think I went 400, 600, 800, 1000 and then 1500 over several days. That may have been overkill, but it looked nice.
