Evening Y'all,
CD/JJ is officially a roller (a car that can be rolled out of the garage) today, got the new bearings yesterday and installed the hubs on the stub axles and the new tie rod ends link the front suspension to the steering wheel....
Bearing end-float set to .005 on the drivers side and 0.00 on the passengers side- later Jag recommendation was zero end float (looseness) and that's pretty close. |
Caliper installed, bolts held with Locktite and lock washers, I'll add safety wire even though it's probably over kill. |
Passenger side, tie rod connected, sway bar hooked up, hub installed and caliper on. |

What a sweet car. So very nice. Always enjoy your blog posts. I probably need to check the end float on my front bearings. I didn't have a gauge when I first did it by flats and feel. Post a pic of the heater duct to bonnet if you get a chance. It's hard to find good pics of those online and Jennifer's car was made sort of close to mine.
ReplyDeleteAnd do the inner bearings spin a bit on the hub axle? Or are they held tightly in place on it? I've had them snug on one car and a bit loose on the other.
ReplyDeleteHi Drew,
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you need more pictures of the heater duct. I am no expert Drew but I don't think the bearing inner race should ever turn on the axle, I don't know how I could check that either with the hub in place.
Thanks for your comments and continued interest!
Cheers,
Lynn
